Stio Figment Jacket and Bib Review

As the snow blankets the Rockies and ski season kicks into high gear, my anticipation for those first exhilarating powder days matches my excitement to put the Stio Figment Jacket and Bibs to the test. Crafted for all-mountain adventures with a free ride design, the Figment lineup promises a thrilling experience on the slopes.

Stio holds a revered status in Colorado’s mountain towns, and rightfully so. Nestled in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the company draws inspiration from the breathtaking Teton Mountain Range. Their repertoire spans biking, skiing, trail running, fishing, and paddling, embodying a commitment not only to diverse outdoor pursuits but also to sustainable design. Utilizing recycled fabrics and embracing environmentally conscious practices, Stio’s dedication to stewardship shines through in their product range, known for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship.

Having eagerly embraced the ski season in the Figment Jacket and Bibs over the past few weeks, I’ve encountered a medley of conditions from icy beginnings to knee-deep powder and the Figment Collection has delivered flawlessly.

The Figment Jacket

A welcome companion for both skiers and snowboarders, the Figment Jacket is purpose built for the freeride experience, an escape from groomed trails into the natural, untamed expanses of the mountain. Tailored for the demands of tight trees, big drops, and deep snow, its relaxed fit ensures unrestricted movement in the backcountry. Available in three colors: knotty pine, fiery agate, and abyss it boasts versatility and style on the slopes.

Constructed from PeakProof fabric, the Figment Jacket epitomizes durability and eco-consciousness, crafted entirely from 100% recycled material. Its PeakProof membrane not only ensures waterproofing but also facilitates breathability, while fully welded seams elevate its weather-resistant capabilities. The collar and chin area feature a soft brushed tricot material, enhancing comfort in chilly conditions.

Exterior Features

In inclement weather, the generously sized hood easily accommodates ski helmets and can be snugly cinched with a discreet drawstring. Complementing this, the cuffs offer an adjustable fit through a hook and loop system to seal out snow around the gloves.

Ample Storage

Purposeful design characterizes the Figment Jacket’s storage capabilities. Two zippered hand pockets, shielded by water-resistant YKK zippers, boast snap covers and protective flaps to repel precipitation. Above these, two chest pockets, one horizontal and the other vertical stand out. The vertical pocket includes a designated “device” pocket, ideal for safeguarding a cell phone, while its counterpart on the right houses a built-in microfiber cloth for clearing fogged goggles. Both pockets are generously sized and feature water-resistant zippers with oversized pulls. A small pocket on the left arm sleeve conveniently holds a ski pass.

More Storage Inside

Internally, each side of the Figment Jacket hosts a spacious mesh pouch, perfect for stashing a small hydration bottle, extra gloves, or rolled-up skins. Positioned above the mesh pouch on the left side, a small zippered mesh pocket provides secure storage for keys or a wallet.

The Figment Bib

Designed to seamlessly complement the Figment Jacket, the Figment Bib mirrors its counterpart with a focus on unrestricted movement and functionality. Crafted with the same robust PeakProof fabric, these bibs echo the jacket’s tear-resistant, waterproof, and breathable properties, complete with sealed seams and an eco-conscious composition.

Bells and Whistles

Riding high on the chest, the Figment Bib features suspenders for customizable height adjustment and a tension lock system that ensures a snug fit around the waist. Articulated knees and a gusseted crotch enable a full range of motion without compromising on comfort. To safeguard against cuts and abrasions, high abrasion-resistant material is strategically placed below the knees along the heel, while the bib’s cuff boasts an internal gaiter, fortifying protection against the elements and ensuring a secure fit over boots.

Mirroring the jacket’s storage capability, the Figment Bibs are generously equipped. A spacious chest pocket and two waist-level hand pockets offer convenient storage options. Additional thigh pockets on the legs amplify carrying capacity. Inside the bibs, a dedicated media pocket and a loop for securing car keys cater to practical needs. High-quality YKK zippers with user-friendly pulls grace all compartments, guaranteeing ease of use.

Wearing the Stio Figment Jacket and Bibs on a Powder Day

30 Inch Powder Day

Stio Figment Jacket and Bib Review

Skiing Aspen Glades

The relaxed, loose style seemed a departure from my usual ski gear. Yet, it’s a game-changer. Not only is it comfortable for layering, but the freedom of movement off groomed runs or over bumps adds an exhilarating dimension. The extra flexibility amid trees and deep powder has made for some incredible runs. I had one of the truly great ski days where a small storm delivered a surprise 30 inches of light fluffy powder. These were absolutely perfect for making the deep powder turns in often times tight trees. For reference, at 5’10” and 170lbs, the medium size in both the Figment Jacket and Bibs fits perfectly.

Crafted from durable PeakProof fabric, every part feels solid and heavy-duty. The weight, over 60 ounces for both, is noticeable, but it’s a trade-off I appreciate. The robust construction and sealed seams instill confidence of no worries about snags or tears.

So Many Pockets

What really stands out is the thoughtful design and abundance of pockets. Unlike previous bibs with minimal storage, these are a revelation. Everywhere and easy to access with oversized pulls. For long ski days, carrying a hydration bladder, snacks, and extra gear feels effortless. The relaxed fit makes stored items comfortable to carry. These pockets shine when skiing with kids. The extra necessities for a great day multiply with young ones in tow. Extra snacks, hand warmers, tissues, and spare gloves are essential, yet it never feels bulky or uncomfortable, even through tight trees.

Snacks For the Kids

Among the pockets, the two front hand pockets steal the show. Vertical openings with a top flap prevent items from falling out and keep snow at bay during heavy falls. Their thoughtful design truly impresses. The upper pocket with the lens cloth was a lifesaver during cloudy skiing sessions, ensuring clear goggles for the whole group. The inner pocket, perfect for a small water bottle, was a game-changer during early morning skinning sessions—easy hydration on the uphill trek. The small ski pass pocket on the arm is genius, ensuring hassle-free lift access without juggling the pass and phone.

Moving to the Figment Bibs, the suspender straps are fantastic—easy to adjust and stay put throughout the ski day. The heavy-duty abrasion-resistant material around cuffs promises exceptional durability.

I’m thoroughly impressed by outdoor companies like Stio, making efforts toward sustainability. The use of recycled materials in high-end gear like the Figment Bib and Jacket is commendable. It’s amazing to see strides toward a more sustainable outdoor industry.

Final Thoughts on the Stio Figment Jacket and Figment Bib

The Stio Figment Jacket and Bib set a new standard for skiing, be it at resorts or in backcountry pursuits. This generously sized collection of ski and snowboard outerwear embodies excellence with its robust construction, sealed seams, and an abundance of storage pockets.
